On a sunny Wednesday afternoon, the grounds of Mlolongo Primary School were alive with excitement. Pupils in neatly pressed uniforms buzzed with anticipation as they gathered near the edge of the school field. Today was no ordinary school day—today was Tree Planting Day.
Nature Lover Organization had partnered with HumansDid and TreeSixty, two eco-conscious initiatives committed to environmental restoration, to bring an ambitious project to life: planting a small fruit tree orchard right within the school compound.
Teachers, pupils, and volunteers from the organizations mingled under a large tree, where colorful banners waved gently in the breeze. “Plant a Tree, Grow a Future,” read one. Another boldly declared, “Fruit for Thought—and Lunch!”
After a short speech by the head teacher and a warm welcome from the Nature Lover team, the pupils broke into groups. Each group was given a sapling—mango, avocado, tarmarindi, guava and other fruits.
Guided by the volunteers from Nature Lover Organization, the children dug, laughed, and learned. As the soil turned and hands grew muddy, so did conversations about climate change, food security, and the power of collective action. “One tree can feed many,” said 12-year-old Amina as she carefully patted down the soil around her mango seedling. “This one will be for my little sister when she joins this school.”
By midday, over 500 fruit trees stood proudly in the schoolyard, each with a hand-painted wooden label bearing its name and the names of the students who planted it. Some children even gave their trees nicknames—“Super Guava” and “Captain Mango” were among the favorites.
As the day ended, everyone gathered for a group photo in front of the new orchard. The smiles were wide, the shirts were stained, and the hearts were full.
That afternoon, Mlolongo Primary didn’t just plant trees—they planted hope, resilience, and a future where the children could one day sit beneath the very branches they helped grow.
And as the first drops of rain began to fall, it felt like nature herself was smiling in approval.
Lorem Ipsum is simply dummy text of the printing and typesetting industry. Lorem Ipsum has been the industry's standard dummy text ever since the 1500s, when an unknown printer took a galley of type and scrambled it to make a type specimen book. It has survived not only five centuries, but also the leap into electronic typesetting, remaining essentially unchanged. It was popularised in the 1960s with the release of Letraset sheets containing Lorem Ipsum passages, and more recently with desktop publishing software like Aldus PageMaker including versions of Lorem Ipsum.
