Planting 50 fruit trees at Olkejuado Primary
Recently, Nature Lover Consultant embarked on a journey to Olkejuado Primary, located in Kajiado Central, where we had the privilege of engaging with both grade 6 and class 8 students who were gearing up for their national exams. The warmth of their welcome by the students and teachers alike made the day even more special.
Led by our project lead, Paul Mbogo, and accompanied by Dr. Mary Manana and Naomi Muniu, we initiated a transformative conversation with the students. The focus? The significance of trees and the environment, and the art of nurturing both. This interactive session allowed the students to take ownership of the trees they were about to plant as they also had the opportunity to name each one. Beyond tree planting, we extended our best wishes to these young minds for success in their upcoming national exams.
The day wasn't all serious discussions; we also had some lighthearted moments with the kids, sharing in the joy of dance and singing traditional Maasai songs. It was a delightful way to connect and bond.
Later, we ventured to the tree orchard, where we planted a total of 50 fruit trees. Notably, Olkejuado Primary is also a home to disabled students who actively participated in this tree-planting endeavor, exemplifying that unity knows no boundaries.
What makes this project even more special is the prospect of these students becoming alumni of Olkejuado Primary as they transition to secondary schools. They will return in the future to visit the trees they planted, which, by then, may bear the fruits of their labor, both literally and metaphorically.
